I instantly fell in love with the Wu Tang clan.they were in my brain.instantly.And i know what they did to pierce into my thick skull. They combined everything I loved-every form of entertainment-and merged it into their hardcore lyrics. No one has ever had that kind of influence on me that fast.”Did the Gza really just use ‘Shogun Assassin’ snippets in his lyrics?”Boom. You had me at ‘they say his brain was infected by devils’.”what?Raekwon using bits of John Woo’s ‘The Killer’ in his album?Jackpot!”Don’t get me wrong,Rzas beats were dark and gritty and unheard of at the time, but it’s these bits of cult/pop references that put them miles ahead.
Not only did I share their love of asian flicks but then they threw comics in the mix. They each developed a comic book character alias.(not sure how legal it was,but still f’in’ awesome!)Ghostface AKA:Tony starks-Iron man.Method man AKA:Johnny Blaze. They got top talent comic book artists to do some amazing album covers for them.Bill Sienkiewicz,Denys Cowan and Chris Bachalo are just a few who have contributed.
So if you like beautifully ugly beats with hard, sharp lyrics AND comics, sports, the F word, white lotus, shaolin vs. ninja, golgo 13,chess,and more F words, check them out.Oh,and all this comes in a nicely drawn package.
